Training of Master Facilitators in Teluk Intan, Perak, Malaysia
8 - 17 April, 2014
A) Enhancing cocoa production in Malaysia through good agricultural practice and improved food safety measures
A total of 28 participants from the Malaysian Cocoa Board, the Department of Agriculture (DOA) of both Sabah and West Malaysia, and the Biosecurity Division of DoA convened at the Cocoa Research and Development Center in Hilir Perak, Malaysia on 8 April 2014 for a training course on sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures for cocoa production.
The 10-day training course in Hilir Perak was the first of the many training courses to be implemented under the CocoaSafe project, funded by the Standard and Trade Development Facility (STDF) and supervised by the International Cocoa Organzation (ICCO).
The training course was conducted by CABI together with MCB and corporate partners e.g. CropLife.
It was aimed at producing a core group of Master Trainers and Facilitators who will go on to identify and train growers/farmers, agro-dealers and processors in SPS methods in cocoa production.
The training modules included materials which were also aimed at raising awareness amongst growers and farmers about the implications of agrochemical use on their health.
